Zuni exhibit opening at Madison Morgan CC

The public is invited to the Madison-Morgan Cultural Center on Tuesday, June 28, for the opening reception of the Zuni Exhibit.  This exhibit features a significant number of Zuni Indian fetish carvings from the private collection of Christopher Rex, artistic director of the Madison Chamber Festival and principal cellist of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra.  Well-known for his musical talent, Christopher Rex is also an avid collector of Zuni Indian fetish carvings and has carvings by some of the most famous artists in his collection – Leekya Deyuse (1889 – 1966); Teddy Weahkee (1890 – 1965); Leonard Halate (1914 – 2001); and Theodore Kucate (1888 – 1980).  Fetish carvings from all four carvers will be on display in the Zuni Exhibit.

The reception is free and open to the public and begins at 6 p.m.. The reception precedes that evening’s Chamber Music Festival performance, Native American Spirit, featuring Native American flutist R. Carlos Nakai and the Linden String Quartet at 7:30 p.m. Tickets for the concert are $25 ($5 for students).  To purchase concert tickets or for more information, please visit  www.mmcc-arts.org or call the Cultural Center at (706) 342-4743 (877) 233-0598.
