GREENSBORO, Ga. — Norman Zapien is passionate about how much he appreciates the hard work and dedication of both the Greene County and Greensboro Police Departments. For the third year, Norman donated 85 turkeys to the police departments to show appreciation for the work they do to serve our community.

Norman said, “During this difficult time, it means more than ever for someone to dedicate their life to keeping others safe – which these officers do every day. We are blessed to have such a wonderful team in our area!”

Thanksgiving is a day for showing gratitude for all we have, and the Greene County and Greensboro Police Department deserves our thanks. Norman continued, “Police departments everywhere need our help and understanding — many are short staffed and working longer hours than usual. We are fortunate to have these dedicated officers serving the Greene county area.”

As a reminder, Norman is also starting his annual donation drive for shelter pets in the area. His “Santa Paws” effort is now in its 17th year and started this year after Thanksgiving. Norman asks the community for donations, which will be placed under the massive tree in the salon. You see everything from dog and cat food and blankets to treats and toys that all of our furry friends are waiting for “Santa Norman” to bring them. On Christmas day, Norman loads up his truck and begins his delivery to local shelters in roughly a 75-mile radius. Many small towns don’t have the funds for shelters, so these donations have a unique impact in many areas. Norman always welcomes the help of local “elves” to help him deliver the holiday donations. Donations to the Zapien’s pet drive can be made up until Dec. 23 at his Lake Oconee salon located at 1051 Village Park Drive in Greensboro.
