Fall temperatures a benefit for planting

The cooler weather of fall has arrived and given us a great opportunity to plant without overheating, unlike the past few months.
Plants also have fewer problems like shock, heat stress, and drying out, and will require less watering, when planted during cooler weather. We are coming into a great time for transplanting shrubs. The survival rate of transplants is much higher during cooler seasons than during the warm season.
Plants will have more time to root in before warm weather and you will have time to replant the areas where you removed the plants.
The best time to move trees is after the leaves have fallen. Make sure you dig a large enough root ball to allow the tree to survive. Once you replant the tree, it is a good idea to stake it so that it will not fall over. When transplanting trees and shrubs make sure you amend the soil with quality soil mix, then plant at the same depth that the plant was originally. If you plant too deep the survival rate will be much lower.
When replanting areas where plants were removed, begin by rebuilding the soil by adding a good soil mix. You will then be able to replant those areas with strong healthy plants.
Consult a garden professional to determine the best varieties of plants to replace your old plants.
Happy gardening.
