Start the New Year off right by planning your landscape additions or changes now. Decide which areas you want to concentrate on, and then make a plan by looking at and considering which plants would compliment the area. It is important to check how much sun or shade the area receives throughout the day since this affects your plant choices. When selecting plant material consider the growth habit of each plant, this will help in choosing the correct plant placement. There are many types of plants available with different leaf colors and bloom colors to add interest. You can choose from many varieties of trees, shrubs, ground covers, perennials and annuals. The best way to choose the proper plants is to view them at the garden center and try to picture them in you landscape. Now is a good time to plant because the roots will have ample time to become established before summer’s heat arrives.

Once you have seen the different plants available, go to each area of your landscape that needs updating and start your planting plan for each of those areas. If you are not sure what type of plants to choose, take pictures and measurements of the area to the garden center. The garden professionals can give you some suggestions or you can have a landscape designer come to your property and create a custom plan especially for your property. Now is a very good time to have a design done since there is a great deal available on the design fee.

Happy Gardening.
