New exhibits coming to Old School History Museum

Between Nov. 3and Jan. 8the Old School History Museum, located at The Plaza Arts Center, 305 N. Madison, Eatonton, will host “The Tuskegee Airmen: The Segregated Skies of WW II,” an exhibit that explores the history and heroism of the first African American pilots to fly in combat for the United States. 

This exhibit, curated by Kennesaw State University’s Museum of History and Holocaust Education offers a glimpse into the racial challenges and triumphs of the aviators, and enables visitors to follow the story of these pioneering pilots from the outbreak of the war to the present. Parent and Teacher resources are available for fifth through 12th grade students online at: https://historymuseum.kennesaw.edu/docs/tuskegee-airmen.pdf. 

The exhibit will be open Tuesdays through Fridays, 10 a.m. to  4 p.m. and is free and open to the public, donations appreciated. No appointment required.

Additionally, between Nov. 18and Jan. 3the Georgia Writers Museum, located at 109 S. Jefferson Avenue will host the traveling exhibit “Unframed Images: Photography from the Collection of P.H. Polk.” Best known for his inspirational portrait of first lady Eleanor Roosevelt and Tuskegee’s Chief Flight Instructor Charles Anderson, P.H. Polk’s work gave the Tuskegee Airmen national recognition. The exhibit will be open Thursdays through Saturdays 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sundays 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
